Husky Injection Molding Systems Ltd. has announced an organizational change, creating a combined business unit for medical and specialty packaging, and the retirement of 33-year Husky veteran Michael Urquhart.

Husky said the reorganization comes because the Bolton, Ontario-based manufacturer of injection molding presses, robots and hot runners, bought Schöttli Group, in a deal announced in November. Schöttli makes molds for medical parts, closures and food packaging.

Husky announced the new global business structure Feb. 27.

Steve Lawrynuik, formerly Husky vice president of customer support, will lead this new unit as vice president of medical and packaging systems. The business will bring together Schöttli technology, Husky’s mold-making facilities in Austria and the Czech Republic, aftermarket tooling and services, and the Hylectric injection molding press platform.

Urquhart joined Husky in 1980. He has held a number of executive positions in operations, marketing and sales. He currently is vice president of global sales for packaging systems.

Urquhart retires at the end of February.

Husky President and CEO John Galt said Urquhart played a big role in growing Husky’s packaging business.

“I would like to thank Michael for his dedication and numerous contributions to Husky over these many years,” Galt said. “I wish Michael well in his retirement, while also congratulating Steve on his new role.”

Another longtime Husky executive also has left the company. Jeff MacDonald, the vice president of marketing and a 20-year Husky employee, left last year and has started his own consulting business outside of the plastics industry.

In other news, Husky will exhibit at the 2015 NPE show. Husky exhibited at NPE 2012, but did not exhibit at two major international trade shows held in Germany last year, Drinktec and K 2013. Instead, the company held a “world tour” road show bringing its technology to customers in nine countries.

Husky reserved a booth location at the recent NPE 2015 space draw in Orlando, Fla.
