Reusable plastic packaging maker Orbis Corp. is closing its Kissimmee, Fla., injection molding facility, a move that will impact about 3 percent of the company’s overall workforce.
Some employees, however, will be offered work at other Orbis sites while others will be given severance and offered outplacement services.
The Oconomowoc, Wis.-based company said work from the site will be moved to other company plants.
“We’re consolidating into other facilities, and this plant served many product lines and had limited press capacity and challenging freight lanes,” said Samantha Goetz, marketing communications manager for Orbis.
In Kissimmee, Orbis makes hand-held injection molded containers for customers “across all of our major key markets,” she said.
Orbis expects to complete closure of the plant during the third quarter. Other Orbis locations and contract molders will be used during the transition, the company said.
“The Kissimmee location is our smallest injection molding plant and we’re not reducing core manufacturing capacity,” Goetz said.
Orbis is a subsidiary of Menasha Corp., which calls itself one of the oldest family owned manufacturing businesses in the country.
While the private company did indicate the closure impacts 3 percent of its employees, it declined to reveal the overall size of its workforce. |
