After more than 40 years at the same location, molder and mold maker East Pattern & Mold Corp. has moved into a new building that is more than twice as big, reflecting a growing business for reaction injection molded products.
“We were having growing pains,” said Warren Kellogg, who founded the company in 1966 in Rochester, N.Y.
Late last year, it moved from a 14,000-square-foot facility where it had been since 1970 to a 40,000-square-foot building in nearby Fairport, N.Y.
“It was quite a big move for us,” Kellogg said in a Jan. 23 telephone interview.
East Pattern has in-house toolmaking and injection molding in addition to RIM molding. It also has a paint line for RIM products.
It produces parts for a variety of end customers, but has been getting increased business from the medical industry, molding RIM panels used for cabinets and housings for medical equipment, including doors and panels that encapsulate glass, said Rosario Gaglianese, vice president of operations.
Using RIM allows the company to produce a wide variety of thicknesses required by its customers, while the paint line allows the company to tap into requirements for a high quality surface appearance.
Its customers also take advantage of East Pattern’s combination of toolmaking and molding for prototype development, Kellogg said.
In addition to the medical equipment, the company makes parts for office equipment and gun manufacturing, Gaglianese said.
The 20 employees at East Pattern have a lot of experience, said Kellogg, adding that some have been with the company since a year after it opened. |
