Conair Group rolled out three families of heavy-duty, single-shaft shredders for scrap reclaim and recycling:
• Model SHE shredders are cost-effective, general-purpose shredders, built around a 10-inch-diameter forged rotor available in widths of 25, 32 and 42 inches. Standard rotor drive motors are 20 hp on the two smaller models and 40 hp on the SHE-42. Optional larger motors are available. Four-way indexable dagger-cut blades work against matching bed knives.
• Model SHH and SHX shredders are designed for maximum throughput. They also feature the dagger-cut knife blades, but are larger, with drive motors from 60 to 200 hp as standard, but up to 300 hp as an option on the largest SHX. Rotors on the SHH are 15 inches in diameter in 42-inch, 52-inch and 62-inch widths. The higher-performance SHX models have 20-inch rotors in widths of 52, 62 and 72 inches. Oversized, outboard pillow-block bearings with split housings give long life and easy shaft removal.
• Model SFH and SFX units are similar to the SHH in basic design, but they feature trapezoid-shaped trap-cut blades configured to handle high-volume reclaim of plastic film and fiber scrap. The shredders have an extremely tight clearance between the rotor blades and bed knife. The rotor design also prevents wrapping, and minimizes the regurgitation of material that could cause wear and generate heat. Rotors are 17 inches in diameter on the SFH and 20 inches on the SFX. Available widths on the SFX are 42, 52 and 62 inches, and up 72 inches on the higher-output SFX.
All Conair shredders, except the general-purpose SHE, can have the optional Wide Open Access configuration, that splits the hopper to expose all cutting and ramming components for easy access. That eliminates awkward top entry into the shredding zone, Conair officials said.
